Hi! I’m Anca Matioc, born in Romania, grew up all over the States, and living in Latin America, first Chile and now Mexico.
After working in and supporting local civil society organizations in Latin American for over a decade, I founded La Sobremesa, a consulting group that focuses on strengthening the civil society ecosystem in the region. We accompany organizations, networks, and funders in creating powerful strategies, annual plans, financial sustainability, healthy teams, and inspiring leaders. We’ve worked with over 30 civil society actors in Latin America and beyond, with a growing number of international actors.
As the director of La Sobremesa, I lead a team of 6 amazing women. Together, we bring in the new clients, design the accompaniments, and facilitate their work, wether it’s a strategy process or a leadership transition. More HERE.
Previous to La Sobremesa, I worked in local civil society organizations in Chile. In one organization, Ciudadanía Inteligente, I was the lead of a regional network of over 18 organizations in 12 countries, called Desarrollando América Latina. The initiative opened up government data to use it to create social apps or projects. There, I began to understand the nuances of each country, each organization, and each civil society space.
Then, I moved to an international support organization, The Engine Room. I lead the most intensive direct support program, Matchbox, to help organizations integrate data and tech into their projects. That’s where I saw that many CSOs were centered around a project – and didn’t have much, if any, organizational structure around them. They were project-ified. I started supporting their strategies, leadership, and teams. Eventually, I realized this is where my passion and strengths intersected. And so La Sobremesa was born!
Of everything we do at La Sobremesa, I am most excited about design and facilitation.
Integrating design methodologies into a project or a process, wether it’s Systems Change for a Co-Impact project (I’ve supported 2 grantees, Alianza Campo Justo & Instituto de Liderazgo de Simone de Beauvoir), Futures Design for a Strategy Process (with Greenpeace Intl & Oxfam Mexico), or Human Centered or User centered Design. Then, facilitating the organization to arrive to the solution themselves. I love seeing the teams’ faces when the “aha” moment arrives!
I’m always curious to meet organizations where they are and supporting them as THEY need!
