I am Paula Spieler, a human rights expert passionate about driving change and strengthening organizations working towards a more just world. My journey has been shaped by strategy, continuous learning, and a deep commitment to promoting human rights for marginalized populations.
Currently, I work as an independent consultant, advising global foundations and civil society organizations on developing and implementing effective strategies. I have a solid track record in leading strategic processes and institutional strengthening worldwide, helping institutions define priorities, structure programs, and maximize impact.
Previously, I led two global portfolios at Porticus in Criminal Justice, Migration, and Human Trafficking, managing a substantial annual budget and coordinating global teams. Before that, I managed the human rights program in Latin America, driving strategic processes that led to innovative initiatives.
I thrive on transforming ideas into action, using a strategic and systemic approach to create lasting impact. My work involves active listening, collaboration, and continuous learning. I believe in cross-cultural collaboration to solve complex issues, love building networks, and harnessing learnings for impact. Recently, I have explored AI tools to showcase impact through visuals and storytelling in a more engaging way.
Beyond strategy, I taught for a decade at FGV Direito Rio, where I also created and managed the school’s international office. During this period, I published in prestigious journals and established partnerships with renowned institutions across four continents.
I hold a doctorate in Theory and Philosophy of Law from the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ), a master’s degree in international relations from PUC-Rio, and a law degree from the same institution. I have also completed specialized courses in human rights, migration, and public policy at Harvard, Oxford, and Birkbeck College.
Reflecting on my journey, I see a common thread: a strong belief in the power of connections and the ability of individuals and organizations to drive meaningful change. Whether leading global strategies, strengthening organizations, or facilitating learning spaces, my commitment remains the same—to contribute to a fairer and more equitable world.
